As one of the “M” towns of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Maleny, Montville and Mapleton, you might be mistaken that think, (especially if you have driven through Montville after dark) that nothing happens in this sleepy hill top hollow after the sun goes down. Well you would be wrong because at least once a month a group of Brothers don their best dinner suit gather there leather apron bag and bring life to this sleepy burough.

History:

Montville Lodge was consecrated on 9th March 1918 as No.1173 Scottish Constitution, District Grand Master Thomas J. Burstow travelling from Brisbane to preside over the ceremony.

The preliminary meeting to elect officers had taken place on 18th October 1917. Establishment of the lodge was guided by Waverley Lodge, Woombye, and its foundation Master was Wor,Bro. W.H.Harvey, a member of that lodge. Bylaws were adapted from Waverley’s.

Meetings were held in the “School of Arts” which survives today after many upgrades as “The Village Hall” Lodge furniture was donated by various brethren and a storage room built under the hall. This went on until 1921 when land (valued at 35 pounds!) was donated next to the Methodist Church and a lodge building erected at the cost of 375 pounds.

Like all Masonic lodges Montville Lodge has strong ties to the community with regular charitable donations to local services and community groups. As this website grows we will be adding more stories so remember to check back.
